Have you ever scratched your head wondering exactly what the plumber you hired was just talking about? Is it all a bunch of technical jargon and ‘insider trade talk’ that leaves your head spinning?
At Real Deal Plumbing we think interactions with our customers should be real and easy to understand. We make an effort to explain what’s going on when there’s a problem, and how we plan your build or new installations.
A key part of clearing up confusion is providing our customers with a good explanation of why we do what we do. But before we get into that we’d like to explain some of the common terms you might hear on a job site, inspection or installation. Some of them are quite basic and self-explanatory, but we’ll explain a few you may not have heard of.

What is Hydro jetting?
- Hydro jetting is the process where drains are cleaned using a high pressure stream of water (‘hydro jet’). The process requires specialized equipment – equipment we have, along with the skills to properly run the process
What are camera inspections?
- A camera inspection is often required when attempting to find the reason for a blockage in a pipe. Our crew will typically only recommend a camera inspection when the source of a blocked pipe can’t be found. Our crew will come to the site with the camera gear, which is inserted into the drain/pipe to slowly explore the line and find the blockage. The blockage can often by tree roots (common in older homes in older neighbourhoods), but can be other objects like construction waste in new builds, etc.
What are sewer line locating services?
- Line locating is important when doing construction or other work on your property. Locating services help you find out where exactly your sewer/service/drain lines are running. We locate and mark these lines so you can carry on with your project.
Fixture installations:
- A ‘fixture’ includes faucets, sinks, toilets, tubs, etc. It’s all the ‘visible’ stuff associated with plumbing in your home. We install all fixtures in new builds, renovations, or repairs to existing homes. Talk to our team about recommendations on the type of fixtures that would work best with your particular use, and for your lifestyle.
What are pump stations?
- Pump stations include sump pumps (mandatory in several Greater Vancouver municipalities) and well pumps (common in rural areas). We install and service both kinds of these pumps. Contact our team about a custom solution for your site/home.
What are drain tiles, and what is drain tile repair?
- Buildings in the lower mainland have drain pipes installed underground around the building perimeter. These pipes are porous and absorb run-off water that drains through the soil on your property. This drainage system feeds back into your home’s external drainage system (or sumps), and then into city storm drains. We install and repair drain tiles in new builds and existing properties.
